COVIDeo-19
Masks in the time of COVID-19 is an illustrated explainer made in May 2020 on the different types of masks, their effectiveness, pros and cons of home-made masks and the cultural differences associated with them (at the time, of course).

At the onset of the pandemic last year, misinformation and rumours were paramount driving people into panic. Staying at home became increasingly difficult and my husband and I wanted to do our bit.
The idea was to debunk myths around wearing masks using science based facts to spread awareness to our near and dear family members and friends in India and Netherlands.
With the limited resources available at home, I used illustration cut-outs, a mobile camera with a makeshift top-view set-up, natural lighting from our large window and stop-motion animation to bring the video to life.

Along with this video, we also published an article on medium.com to reach a more technical audience who might find the repository of references and information useful in their own research. The illustrations used in the video were also composed and used to editorially in the article.

What began as a personal project, soon became a reason to develop my skills as an illustrator and helped me delve into the world of video animation and science communication. Word soon reached TU Delft PhD students, and made way for my next animation project, African New Towns : An Urban planning Perspective.
